If you like Harry Potter, here’s a reading suggestion:

robotics5

The Lightning Catcher series.

Here’s a small breakdown of why you might like it:

  • It takes place at a boarding school
  • Has a main character with two friends
  • Cool lightning and weather stuff!
  • Not written by a TERF
  • It’s got magic! Weather magic, but it’s really fun!
  • Magical school hijinks!
  • Not written by a TERF
  • Really fun story
  • Several books long
  • It’s not written by a TERF

I know a lot of people are really attached to the Harry Potter series, but PLEASE, just read something that’s not written by a TERF! You don’t need to listen to my recommendation(s), but please just read something else and stop giving JKR money!

You know what? Here’s a couple more recommendations:

The Keeper of the Lost Cities series. Another breakdown:

  • A sort of “chosen one” protagonist
  • A group of close friends
  • Magic!
  • Not written by a TERF
  • Drama
  • Intrigue
  • Quality worldbuilding
  • Also not written by a TERF
  • Lots of magic! Not spells, but a wide variety of abilities! As well as more mundane aspects of it.
  • A magical school! No houses, but it’s still a magic school!
  • Long books, a ton of content per book
  • A lot of books! It’s a long series, more than just seven!
  • Characters have a bunch of depth!

The Percy Jackson & The Olympians series! It might seem obvious, but it’s a great series and a great alternative. Another breakdown:

  • Another sort of “chosen one” protagonist
  • Starts out with a bad home life
  • There’s magic!
  • Protagonist goes from bullied kid to hero
  • The cabins! You can sort characters into them!

“My OC is a Ravenclaw” no they’re not, they’d be in the Athena cabin!

  • And there’s more than just 4 cabins, so there’s plenty of options!
  • Excellent worldbuilding
  • Mythology!
  • Not written by a TERF
  • Rick Riordan (the author) is very LGBTQ+ friendly!
  • The series is a decent length, 5 books, but sequel series expand that by quite a bit!
  • Great characters
  • Engaging plot
  • Overall excellent series!

You know what? Another recommendation. The Elemental Trilogy

  • A chosen one protagonist
  • Mages
  • Protagonist did something that people believed impossible to do with magic
  • Very cool magic
  • Whole secret world of mages
  • British
  • Large variety of magic (blood magic, elemental, etc)
  • Has teleportation as a common magic most mages can use
  • Dragons!
  • An evil organization that’s after the main characters!
  • Romance
  • Prophecies
  • Not written by a TERF! (You probably could tell by the previous listings)
  • Great plot
  • Only 3 books but hey, that’s still a decent length

sorry but i’m busy thinking about how the first thing ortus asked harrow in the river was “how did gideon die?” i’m thinking about how there were three children who grew up at drearburh and ortus was one of them. i’m thinking that he was a poet and he wrote often on the depth of love and he probably based it on the two of them, and how could he be seeing one without the other? he called her “young gideon.” imagine how he must think of harrow!!! “he petted her hair like a brother” anyways i’m not okay

For those with homes built to keep heat in, not let it out: aluminum foil your windows, shiny side out. Cover the window, tape up the sides, maybe tape cardboard behind it to help insulate from the heat outside and absorb heat that gets through the foil.

Love, a former Californian, whose had to keep houses cool without any electricity.

P.S. this is a method endorsed by FEMA and the Department of Energy, so if you need more than anecdotal evidence, there ya go.

I do this up in the PNW and it really helps during heat waves. So much.
